Château Peyfaures is located just outside the hamlet of Genissac; its 17 hectares face the hillside where Saint-Emilion’s finest estates are situated. Established almost 200 years ago, the property was in the Godeau family for 7 generations and was sold to the Moraes family in 2017. Rolland has been the consulting winemaker since 2002.
Although it is located in a region steeped in rigid tradition, Château Peyfaures prides itself on being a resolutely progressive estate with its eye on producing the best the region can offer. The estate’s terroir, comprised of ferruginous clay upon limestone produces wines with vivid color, incredible structure, and extraordinary aging potential. Like its Right Bank neighbor, Château Peyfaures focuses on Merlot, blending in Cabernet Franc and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon to create wine with lush dark fruit and layered complexity.*
Today’s wine is a blend of 95% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, all organically farmed, and aged fro 15 months in French oak, one third of which is new. A few swirls in the glass bring forth heady aromas of fresh herbs and red and black berries. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied and beautifully integrated, with flavors of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry entwined with notes of cedar, savory herbs, and saddle leather.
