PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:

For 142 years, four generations of the López de Heredia family have devoted themselves to producing exceptional and unique wines. They are masterpieces which the founder of the company, Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, defined in the late nineteenth century as "Supreme Rioja". Vineyard care, scrupulous selection of grapes, extended aging in oak barrels and in bottles all contribute to making these illustrious wines with their exceptional bouquet. (winery notes)

Today's wine is sourced from the Cubillas Vineyard, located two miles away from the winery in Haro. The vineyard is approximately 1330 feet above sea level and the vines have an average age of 40 years. This 59-acre vineyard is composed of clay and limestone soil and is planted to Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo, all of which appear in the final blend.

Aged for 3 years in American oak barrels before bottling, this wine is not your average Crianza. Crianza wines in Spain must be aged in oak for a minimum of one year; Heredia's practice of oak-aging its Crianzas for 3 years is a testament to its dedication to superior craftsmanship. The wine's nine years of development have given it a level of complexity that is unrivaled among its Crianza peers.

95 points, James Suckling:

"Cubillo is a very focused and quite crisp style of red that has spent three years in barrique and then in larger cask to wait for bottling, which happens two years before the expected release. The richness and depth of complex dried wood and spice here are seamlessly sewn into the dried red and dark cherries. The palate is pinned around a fresh-blackberry core that marries still sweet fruit to a more savory style. Long and balanced. The tannins are fine yet assertive. It freshens into the finish nicely. Drink or hold." (7/4/19)

93 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2010 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza is superb and shows great depth and nuance, with great freshness, and the red cherries are complemented by notes of blood oranges, nutmeg, and other spices. It has a soft and harmonious palate, with great balance and very good freshness. 90,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2017." (6/28/19)
