Rainer Loacker established his family estates in 1979; today his three sons Franz Josef, Hayo, and Hannes run the properties. They share his same pioneering spirit as well as an unwavering pursuit of excellence, which is accomplished by taking the utmost care of the vines and letting the terroir do the talking in their finished wines. They believe that organic and biodynamic farming is the means to this end have have been employing these sustainable practices long before they were in vogue.
Tenuta Corte Pavone is a 19-hectare estate located in the heart of Montalcino. Its vineyards are planted exclusively to Sangiovese and the annual production is 80,000 bottles. Today’s wine is sourced form five vineyard sites: Ramerino, Aromatica, Levante, Rosa dei Venti, Anemone, and Macchiese; the average age of the vines is 20 years. The wine spent 18 months in seasoned oak barrels before bottling. Just entering its drinking window now, it is rich and round, with abundant aromas and flavors of pomegranates, cherries, blackberries, and plums, with accents of brambly earth, tar, and tobacco.
94 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:
"Opening to a dark ruby color and saturated consistency, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Corte Pavone is a standout wine. This producer adheres to a non-interventionist approach to winemaking and the quality of fruit is bold and opulent. This expression is much richer and denser next to its peers. Instead of red fruit aromas, the wine delivers an abundance of black fruit, plum and black currant. The wine is soft and approachable now, although it should continue to flesh out over the next five years." (3/3/16)
92 points, James Suckling:
“This is another bright and fruity 2011 Brunello with dried cherry, citrus and light cream aromas and flavors. Full body, tight and silky. Drink or hold.” (2/14/16)
91 points, Wine Spectator:
"A good lashing of oak frames the black cherry and blackberry fruit in this muscular red. Spice and earth notes join the fray, with a serious cadre of tannins on the spice- and eucalyptus-tinged finish. Best from 2018 through 2026." (10/15/16)
