PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
At the foot of the majestic Schlossberg Hill, Domaine Weinbach, named after the small stream that crosses it, was built in 1612 by Capuchin monks. Sold during the French Revolution, it was acquired in 1898 by the Faller brothers, who passed it on to their son and nephew Théo. A towering figure in Alsace and ardent promoter of its recognition as an AOC, Théo Faller was a fierce advocate of Alsace wines the incomparable terroir of the region.*
In 1979, after Théo's passing, the estate was taken over by his wife Colette and daughters Catherine and Laurence, who showed the same passion for the great wines of Alsace and the same unfailing dedication to producing wines of the highest quality, Since 2016, Catherine Faller has been running Domaine Weinbach with her sons Eddy and Théo, and it remains one of Alsace's most iconic properties.*
Today's stunning offer is a blend of 40% riesling, 30% auxerrois, 20% pinot gris, 5% muscat, and 5% sylvaner co-fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 8 months in large, seasoned oak vats. The fruit is sourced entirely from the Precheur Vineyard, which has soils of clay overlaid with sand and imparts lovely terroir-driven characters. The wine abounds with aromas and flavors of peaches and apricots on a medium-bodied frame and finishes long with a touch of lime zest.
