Friuli owes its status as a world-class wine region in large part to Mario Schiopetto, who founded the winery bearing his name in 1970. Inspired by his father's love for wine, he developed a passion for the fermented juice himself and sought out to establish a winery and vineyards in this homeland that celebrated the land as well as its native varietals. A firm believer in terroir-driven craftsmanship, he also espoused modern technology and winemaking practices and successfully integrated the two to produce world-class wines. Today, his winery is in the hands of the Rotolo family, who have carried on Mario's mission to make world-class wines that reflect the viticultural bounty of Friuli.
Ribolla Gialla thrives in the well-drained clay and limestone soils of Friuli, and it shows in today's lovely wine. Light to medium-bodied, it has aromas and flavors of white peaches and lemon peel, with subtle hints of herbs and baking spice and a whiff of white pepper on the finish. Bright acidity keeps it light on its feet and makes it a smashing Summer sipper.
