AdegaMãe founder João António Alves has winemaking in his blood. His father made traditional Portuguese wines and instilled in him a passion for the craft as well as reverence for the land and its traditions. A tribute to the family matriarch, Manuela, AdegaMãe strives to showcase the terroir of this small and relatively unknown but mighty wine destination. With his son Bernardo and winemakers Diogo Lopes and Anselmo Mendes, he crafts seamless blends of international and indigenous varietals.
Located north of Lisbon and just steps away from the coast, AdegaMãe has a terroir strongly influenced by the prevailing Atlantic sea breezes and makes wines full of character, both freshly fruity and mineral-driven.* The "Dory" Vinho Branco and Vinho TInto are their flagship wines and have locally achieved iconic status. One sip of each and it is so easy to understand why!
The "Dory" Tinto is a blend of native varietals touriga nacional and aragonez, along with syrah and pinot noir. Medium-to-full-bodied, it has aromas of floral-tinged black fruits and a palate redolent with flavors of black raspberries and cassis. The fruit characters are laced with subtle hints of woodsmoke, with a whiff of white pepper on the finish.
