Wines from the Moulin-à-Vent cru are among the richest and most powerful in Beaujolais, and those made by Anita Kuhnel are exquisite expressions of cru and varietal. Based in Chénas, the estate has holdings in 6 appellations: Moulin-à-Vent, Morgon, Chénas, Fleurie, Beaujolais, and Beaujolais-Villages. The vineyards are located on exceptional terroirs; sustainable agriculture is implemented in each plot.
Today’s stellar offering is crafted from 100% Gamay from vines that are 45-50 years old. Aged in oak for 11 months, it is a fascinating expression of gamay. The color is deep, the aromas of dark fruits combining
wonderfully with the roasted notes associated with aging. The palate is rich, smooth, and silky (winery notes).
94 points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine: “This wine is hugely structured and dense, displaying the real heart of Moulin-à-Vent in its richness. Black plum and spice from wood aging give this wine a ripe character and aging potential. Drink from 2019. (3/1/18)
91 points, Vinous: “Bright violet color. Deeply pitched dark berry and cherry compote aromas, along with hints of candied licorice and allspice. Offers concentrated blueberry and cherry flavors that unfold slowly, picking up a spicy nuance and turning sweeter on the back half. Clings with strong tenacity on the finish, which is framed by smooth, slow-building tannins.” (3/18)
