PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
El Enemigo is a labor of love by Adrianna Catena of Catena Zapata fame and Alejandro Vigil. Adrianna grew up around wine but went into academia, eventually earning a Ph.D. in History. Alejandro was fascinated by winemaking from a young age but put those ambitions aside to become an agricultural engineer. While both enjoyed illustrious careers in their respective fields, they both found that their true calling was in wine craftsmanship. They both returned to Bodega Catena Zapata, where Alejandro became the chief winemaker.

Today's wine is sourced from the Gualtallary Vineyard in the Uco Valley. Blended with 10% malbec and aged for 15 months in 100-year-old foudres, it is rich and resplendent with aromas and flavors of raspberries, cherries, and redcurrants flanked with accents of wet stone, savory herbs, white pepper, and tobacco leaf.

94 points, Vinous:
"The 2019 cabernet franc from the Uco Valley contains 10% malbec and spent 15 months in foudres. Violet in hue. The raw nose offers a whiff of stem and herbal hints with a touch of cherry and a fruity backdrop. Quite smooth and juicy with a degree of tension and a frank expression, the dark fruit flavors are compact at the back of the mouth, leading into the lengthy finish." (9/22)

92 points, James Suckling:
"This has aromas of fresh plums, raspberries, currants, tobacco leaves, and bark. Medium-bodied with supple tannins and a creamy, vibrant, and fresh palate. Juicy fruit. Drink now or hold." (5/3/22)

92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"It was curious to see how the cabernet franc in cooler years seemed to have ripened more thoroughly, and the 2019 cabernet franc... felt riper than the 2020, with darker fruit and a headier sensation, despite all being around 13.5% alcohol...It has some spicy oak in the background." (11/30/22)
