PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
Nicolas-Jay is the story of a three-decade friendship between famed Burgundian winemaker Jean-Nicolas Meo and visionary music entrepreneur Jay Boberg. Jean-Nicolas Meo’s path to Oregon’s Willamette Valley first went through the great grand crus of Burgundy, where he spent nearly 30 years making wines from legendary vineyards like Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Corton Clos Rognet, and Echezeaux, as well as his own family vineyard, Domaine Meo-Camuzet.* In 2012 their winery was born. It is here that they employ Old World winemaking sensibilities in expressing the unique terroir of the Willamette Valley.

The Valley's Bishop Creek vineyard is the cornerstone of the Nicolas & Jay endeavor. In their quest to craft the highest expression of Willamette Valley pinot, Jean-Nicolas and Jay visited dozens of vineyards, wineries, and tasting rooms and sampled hundreds of wines. They were particularly struck by the finesse and power of wines sourced from this vineyard, and when it went up for sale they knew it was meant to be theirs. They purchased Bishop Creek and also established relationships with other growers who had similar farming philosophies.

93 points, Vinous:
"Sexy, assertively perfumed aromas of fresh red fruits, potpourri, and baking spices, with a hint of cola in the background. Juicy and focused on the palate, Nicolas & Jay's 2017 Pinot Noir offers vibrant raspberry, cherry, blood orange, and rose pastille flavors and a late jolt of spicy white pepper. Made in a fresh, exuberant style, with silky tannins sneaking in slowly to add shape and grip to the impressively long, spice-accented finish." (8/20)

93 points, Decanter:
"This wine displays aromas of wet earth, Earl Grey tea, and cocoa nibs, followed by flavors of pomegranate and red plum skin. It's classic Oregon Pinot Noir, and one can see the Méo-Camuzet influence, albeit with a softer generosity. The blend is based around Bishop Creek Vineyard, with smaller portions of other sites including Hyland, Knight’s Gambit and Hopewell". (9/19)

93 points, Wine Spectator:
“A lovely wine, elegantly complex and expressive, with raspberry and rose petal aromas accented by a hint of cardamom. Builds tension toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2029.” (1/21)
