PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Located north of Rioja and tucked into the lower slopes of the Pyrenees mountains lies the Spanish DO of Navarra. Known for the production of rosé wines in the past, the modern wine movement has brought about changes in this remote area, making it a prime destination for delicious and well-priced reds. Bodegas Nekeas was instrumental in the region’s transformation, and their discovery of 60-year-old Garnacha vines in Navarra’s Valdizarbe Valley has enabled them to craft ultra-ripe and terroir-driven wines from this luscious grape.
Today’s wine is a mono-varietal that is stainless-steel fermented and aged in seasoned French oak. It opens with a nose of strawberries and raspberries laced with lovely floral aromatics. The palate is densely packed with flavors of black raspberries entwined with notes of cassis, black pepper, baking spices, and mocha. Vibrant acidity makes the wine fresh without detracting from its richness. Check out the press!
