PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Monferrato is a large production zone in the southeast corner of Piedmont that is home to several smaller DOC/DOCG regions and has a winemaking history that dates back to the early 19th century. Divided by the Tanaro River, influenced by the nearby Apennine Mountains and with free draining, tuffaceous* soils, it is ideal for the cultivation of many indigenous as well as international varietals.

Tenuta La Pergola is owned by the Bodda family; their vineyards are in a hamlet of the town of Cisterna d’Asti, a typical Monferratese fortified hilltop town. The family farms all of the local grapes of the area on their steep vineyards covering 40 hectares: Arneis, Barbera, Freisa, Bonarda, Croatina, Dolcetto, and Brachetto.**

Today’s wine is a blend of Barbera, Dolcetto, Bonarda, Freisa, and Croatina aged for 10 months in stainless steel before bottling. Medium-to-full-bodied, it has a nose of black fruits that gives way to a palate redolent with brambly blackberry, raspberry, black cherry, and plum, with subtle hints of savory herbs and a whiff of black pepper. Pliant tannins and moderate acidity keep the wine plush while bringing balance. This is the real deal!
