PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Domaine Cheveau is a third-generation, family-owned estate established in 1950 by André Cheveau and currently run by his son, Michel, and two grandsons Julien and Nicolas, as well as Nicolas' wife Aurélie. Situated in the hamlet of Solutré-Pouilly in the heart of the Mâconnais, the estate's vineyards are primarily located in and around the famous Rock of Solutré (see above picture), with some vineyards in Davayé as well as a few in Saint-Amour in Beaujolais. The vineyards planted to chardonnay are composed of clay and limestone soils that bring forth the majestic wines that we love so much. With an annual production of only sixty thousand bottles per year, the Cheveaus have the time to lavish their vines with loving attention. All of the grapes are hand-harvested and are fermented and aged in stainless steel and/or oak.
The 2021 "Vers Cras" is a single vineyard wine sourced from the Vers Cras Vineyard in the heart of Pouilly-Fuissé. The average age of the vines is 65 years; the soil is composed of fine, white limestone with excellent drainage. The wine underwent fermentation as well as malolactic fermentation in barrels and was aged on the lees for an additional year before bottling. Richly textured yet infused with vibrant acidity, the 2021 "Vers Cras" has aromas of citrus fruits and honeysuckle followed by a palate of lemon zest, Golden Delicious apples, and honey infused with chalky, wet stone and acidity that gives it lift and brings it to a long and satisfying finish.
