PRODUCT OVERVIEW: Marietta Cellars is a second-generation, family-owned winery with vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Current owner and winemaker Scot Bilbro caught the winemaking bug from his father, who cut his teeth making wine purchased from local grape growers and acquired vineyard sites as he expanded his expertise and knowledge of the region's landscape. Armed with an enology degree from UC Davis, Scot spent years honing his craft alongside his father and was ready to take over upon his father's retirement ten years ago. Today, he makes bold, expressive wines that reflect his land, the climate, and the Marietta house style.

The 2019 "Christo" is a blend of syrah, grenache, petite sirah, and viognier sourced from Marietta's estate vineyards in Sonoma County's Alexander Valley as well as the Yorkville Highlands and McDowell Valley, both in southern Mendocino County. Named for Scot's father, Chris, who was nicknamed "Christo" by his great-aunt Marietta, it beautifully straddles the line between power and elegance.

96 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A blend of syrah, grenache, petite sirah, and viognier, the 2019 Christo has a deep ruby-purple color and alluring scents of blueberry jam and cassis with accents of loamy earth, violet, coffee beans, and iron. The full-bodied palate is powerful yet silky, with seamless acidity and gobs of pure violet perfume on the long, layered finish. It's easy to drink now but offers a decade or more of cellaring potential.

93 points, James Suckling:
"Aromas of green olive, black cherries, blackberries, and oolong. Full-bodied with lovely fine, slightly tight tannins. Focused and driven with sturdy depth and length. Meaty with graphite undertones. 65% syrah, 22% grenache, 10% petite sirah and 3% viognier. Drink or hold." (9/6/22)

93 points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"This bold and nicely oaked red wine offers deep, dark-fruit flavors and attractive accents of vanilla, cinnamon, and dark chocolate on a full body backed by moderate tannins. It is tasty, rich, and mouth-filling."(10/1/22)
