The 1448 is made by renowned winemaker Jeff Runquist in vintages that bear a plethora of spectacular fruit. The excess is used to make this special cuvée, which is named after his winery's elevation in the Sierra Foothills. Blockbuster varietals Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, and Tannat dominate the 2017 blend, and it shows.
The 2017 “1448” has a deep, rich color that clings to the inside of a wine glass. The aromas display blue and red fruits, most notably black raspberry and blueberry, with hints of vanilla, spice, violets, and lavender. The palate is rich, succulent and juicy, with plenty of ripe cassis and black raspberry framed by a toasted oak creaminess. The tannins are mature and add richness and texture, while vibrant acidity on the long finish keeps it light on its feet. (from winery notes)
