Amarone wines are the absolute cream of the crop of the Veneto region. Rich, powerful, and complex, they are the result of a winemaking technique that sets them apart from their peers. They are made from grapes that are dried on straw mats for 12 to 14 weeks BEFORE vinification. Known as the appassimento method, this process concentrates the sugars and fruit characters and increases the juice's skin contact. The resulting wines are intensely flavored, well-structured and high in alcohol.
Today's wine is medium-to-full-bodied and redolent with flavors of black cherries and plums, with accents of savory herbs and a whiff of pepper on the long finish. It components are beautifully-integrated as one would expect from a half-bottle with 7 years under its belt, but its high alcohol and bright acidity give it an energetic kick. This wine is a magnificent, seamless blend of power and elegance as well as maturity and youthful exuberance. It's AWESOME and will be enjoyed by Amarone novices to aficionados.
