PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
Castello di Albola is located in the municipality of Radda, which is situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation. Radda has a history of grape cultivation that dates back to the time of the Etruscans. The Acciaiuoli family were the first proprietors if the estate; they planted its lofty vineyards in the 15th century as a symbol of their high status. Over the centuries, many noble Tuscan families have owned the property.

In 1979, the Family Zonin acquired Castello di Albola, promising to uphold the estate’s excellence for future generations. The wines produced here have earned the iconic “Gallo Nero” symbol from the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium, which guarantees the highest standards in winemaking.

This Riserva wine is a monovarietal (100% Sangiovese) crafted from the highest quality grapes sourced from eight select vineyards in Castello di Albola; each site contributes a distinct aspect of its terroir to the final blend. After aging for almost three years, including fourteen months in oak barrels and another eighteen months in bottle, the wine displays a buoyant personality, with smooth tannins and a concentrated palate redolent with black fruits and layered with notes of tobacco, brambly earth, and cut flowers.

93 points, James Suckling:
“Plenty of bark, tea leaves, nutmeg, red currants and dried red plums. Medium to full body, lots of juicy yet crunchy fruit, bright acidity and a chewy, medium-long finish.” (6/30/18)

92 points, Decanter:
“This property has been in the hands of the Zonin family since 1979, though mention of an Albola estate seems to date back to 1010 AD. Of the 900 hectares, 150 are planted to vines and the Riserva is assembled from eight selected vineyards. It's gorgeously scented with dogwood flower, dried tobacco leaf and strawberry. Deceptively light-weight, this becomes more serious as it sits in the glass, with layers of fine fruit building and dusty tannins lending support.” (2/11/19)

90 points, Wine Spectator:
“Cherry and plum flavors ply this broad red, along with hints of leather and tobacco. Fluid, with a dusty feel of tannins on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2032.” (4/30/19)
