PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW: Domaine de la Ferté has a history that dates back to the 12th century when it was established as a monastery. Today it is owned and operated by the Devillard family. They lavish their attention on their 6.25 acres of vines and produce only three wines, all of which are Pinot Noirs. This narrow focus allows them an intimate knowledge of the micro-terroirs of their vineyards and a singular expertise in the craftsmanship of their wines.
Today's offer is entirely sourced from the Premier Cru "Servoisine" vineyard in northern Givry, which has a southeastern exposure and soil rich in clay and silt. The grapes were hand-harvested; maceration and alcoholic fermentation took place over two weeks in temperature-controlled vats; aging in French oak (60% new) gave the wine depth and weight. It is indeed a silky-smooth seductress, with generous flavors of black raspberry and black cherry laced with accents of savory herbs, cardamon, and wet stone. The wine has that lush, mouth-coating texture you love and soft tannins, with vibrant acidity that emerges on the long finish.
Decanter Magazine gave it 91 points: "La Servoisine is an historic 0.64ha Premier Cru dating back to 1170 which the Devillard family acquired in 2010. This is an inviting Pinot Noir with crunchy black cherry fruit and great concentration. The acidity is bright and supported by fine tannins and pure Pinot fruit." (6/8/2015)
