Kenwood Vineyards was established in 1970 at the site of the former Pagani Brothers Winery, a historic cellar dating back to 1906. Located in the heart of the Sonoma Valley, Kenwood Vineyards is dedicated to producing wines that truly represent the style and terroirs of Sonoma County. Since 1976, Kenwood Vineyards has been the exclusive producer of wines from the historic lava-terraced vineyards of the famous Jack London Ranch, located on the western slope of Sonoma Valley in Glen Ellen, California. Jack London was a pioneer of sustainable farming in Sonoma over 100 years ago; today the estate continues to be sustainably farmed by the same family. Award-winning wines are produced from these unique red-lava soil vineyards characterized by deep dark colors and rich varietal flavors. The superb quality of these limited production wines has made them among the most successful single-vineyard series in California.*
Today's wine spent over 2 years in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels. This balance adds depth and richness while enhancing the interplay between fruit and terroir. The wine opens with heady aromas of black fruits and exotic spice that follow on the palate. Full-bodied and richly-textured, it coasts the palate with ripe flavors of cassis, blackberries, and black cherries. Accents of vanilla, toast, more exotic spice and olive tapenade are layered with the fruit; chewy yet pliant tannins provide structure and balance.
94 points, Tasting Panel:
"Deep ruby color; smooth, lush, and rich with intense blackberry and cassis; juicy, balanced and crisp; long and layered." (4/16)
92 points, Decanter:
"Violets and vanilla meld together on top of subtle leather notes, restrained plum and forest floor. This will most likely develop fast. Drink 2017-2024." (10/16)
