PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
Founded in 1996, DuMol is known as a "vineyard up" winery, and this turn of phrase is the key to its enormous success and iconic status among a very competitive field of well-established wineries in California's North Coast. The folks at DuMol know that great wines are made in the vineyards and that it is the terroir that determines the quality of the finished wine. To that end, everything they do revolves around the specific characteristics of a vineyard and vintage; farming and winemaking techniques are tailored to express "purity of place".

Over the past two decades, DuMol has gained access to some of the most heralded and sought-after vineyard sites in Sonoma and Napa. Chief winemaker Andy Smith and his team take their time working each and every parcel of land in order to discover their defining characteristics and tailor their viticultural practices so that their finished wines are the highest expressions of their origins.

The 2018 DuMol Cabernet Sauvignon is a monovarietal sourced from four vineyard sites in the Napa Valley and beautifully displays the bounty of the excellent 2018 vintage. Aged for 20 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels, it is highly perfumed, with exotic floral aromas interspersed with blackberry, plum, sweet thyme, and spiced clove. The palate is fruit-focused with black cherry and dark cassis notes alongside a sense of crushed stone. Cedar, pencil lead, and sweet tobacco notes shine through with a touch of bittersweet cocoa. Power matched with elegance offers a balanced opulence with myriad nuances. The wine’s natural density and well-defined tannins promise an aging potential of 12+ years. (winemaker notes)

98 points & #7, Top-100 Wines of 2021, Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"A lovely, 100% varietal wine aged 20 months in French oak, this is juicy, herbal, and offers a substantial foundation of power. Cedar, tobacco, and tomato leaf accent a core of crushed rock, dark plum, and threads of acidity—the weight and structure lifted by underlying freshness." (9/2021)

90-93 points, Vinous:
"DuMol's 2018 cabernet sauvignon (Napa Valley) is such a gorgeous wine, especially in its peer group. Vibrant and nuanced to the core, the 2018 is endowed with tremendous class. Dark fruit, chocolate, lavender, spice, and grilled herbs give this expressive, vibrant Cabernet so much detail." (4/20)
