The vineyards from which today's wine was sourced are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern part of the Chianti Classico appellation, northeast of Siena. Almost exclusively with a southwestern exposure, they sprawl across ventilated slopes at an altitude ranging from 320 to 420 meters above sea level. Geologically, the terrains are mixed, ranging from rock quartz and calcareous soil to sandstone and loam. (winery notes) Only the highest quality fruit -100% Sangiovese - was selected for the Riserva, which was aged in a combination of French and Slavonian oak barrels (new and seasoned) for 24 months. The wine displays the seamless, subtle characteristics of an evolved wine, yet it is full of life, with fragrant floral and spice notes, luscious flavors of cherries and plums, and terroir-driven minerality. The soft tannins are balanced by bright acidity that lengthens the finish. This is an absolutely gorgeous wine that will complement a wide variety of foods, but you may want to savor it all by its glorious self.
