OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
The Fontanabianca wine estate is so named because it looks out on a natural spring, the “white fountain” with its vineyards located in Neive. Young winemaker Matteo Pola, the son of Fontanabianca’s founder Aldo Pola, has wowed critics of all stripes in recent years with his stunning wines. It’s not hard to understand why: The family is blessed, as he will be the first to tell you, with some of the best vineyard sites in Neive, the heart of the Barbaresco appellation. At Fontanabianca, the father-and-son team divides the work between them: Aldo is the vineyard manager, while Matteo makes the wines. Aldo and Matteo are known as some of the best growers in Barbaresco; Matteo was mentored by one of the greatest Nebbiolo producers of all time, Beppe Caviola.*

Today's wine is made from 100% nebbiolo sourced from vineyards in Neive composed of clay and limestone soil and situated 1000 feet above sea level. The wine is aged in large barriques before bottling.

95 points & Editors' Choice, Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"Lovely aromas of violet, iris, and perfumed berry lift out of the glass. Firmly structured and focused, the linear palate shows refinement and finesse, with taut, refined tannins framing juicy red cherry, strawberry compote, and star anise. Fresh acidity keeps it vibrant and balanced." (9/1/22)

94 points, Robert Parker:
"The 2019 Barbaresco fits in perfectly with this portfolio of new releases, and although this is not a single-vineyard expression, the wine shows a ton of territorial and varietal authenticity nonetheless. You get sharp and pinpoint aromas of purple fruits with lifted tones of licorice, earth, and pressed blue flowers. The mouthfeel is silky and taut." (8/11/22).
