Pelissero is a family-owned winery based in Treiso, which is located in the province of Cuneo. The family owns several vineyards in the Lange region; most of their holdings are in Barbaresco, Alba, and Asti. While their portfolio includes wines made from several native Piedmont grapes as well as some others that thrive in the climate here, Nebbiolo is the Pelisseros' passion, and their mad love for this noble varietal is expressed beautifully in their Barbarescos.
Today's wine is crafted from 100% Nebbiolo sourced from several small lots within their vineyards, each having a distinct micro-terroir that contributes to the finished wine. This is traditional, old-school Barbaresco that is stainless steel fermented and aged in a combination of small and large oak casks. Medium-bodied, its nose of flowers and red fruits gives way to a vibrant and beguiling palate of brambly red cherries and raspberries, with notes of savory herbs and spices.
93 points, Vinous:
"Racy and exuberant on the palate, with terrific fruit density, the 2015 Barbaresco Nubiola captures the exuberant side of the year nicely. Sweet red cherry, rose petal, mint, licorice and orange peel all flesh out in the glass. In 2015, the Nubiola – which can be a bit lean – is nicely filled out. Pliant, deep and powerful, the 2015 appears to have a very bright future. Best of all, the 2015 will drink well with minimal cellaring." (10/18)
