PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
Pierre Gaillard is one of France's most revered winemakers. He studied Viticulture and Enology in Beaune and obtained a Graduate Diploma in Winemaking from Montpellier. He bought his first parcel of land in 1981 which was called Clos de Cuminailles, located in Malleval. It was there in the upper part of the medieval town of Malleval that Gaillard established his business. In 2002, he created the estate of Madeloc in Banyuls-sur-Mer, followed by the estate of Cottebrune in Faugères in 2007. Today, Gaillard manages a total of 77 hectares throughout the northern Rhône.*

Crozes-Hermitage sits on the left bank of the Rhône River. Its cooler climate brings forth powerful wines with excellent structure. Today's wine is made from 100% Syrah from a 5-hectare contiguous parcel vineyard planted in the early 1980s. The gravel soils provide good drainage, which makes the vines dig deep for water and nourishment, thus producing ultra-ripe fruit.* Aged for 12 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak, it is powerful yet elegant, replete with ripe berry fruits layered with notes of underbrush, pepper, spice, and herbs. 91 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"The deep purple-hued 2018 Crozes-Hermitage is outstanding, a charming, fruit-forward effort very much in the style of the vintage. Loaded with notions of black and blue fruits, ground pepper, and violets as well as a touch of earthiness, drink it any time over the coming 5-7 years." (12/12/19)
