PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
Tapiz is one of the most renowned and awarded wineries in Argentina. All of the Tapiz fruit comes from the winery's famed San Pablo vineyard in Mendoza's Uco Valley. San Pablo is one of the highest altitude vineyards in Mendoza (4,600 feet above sea level). This extreme altitude provides for warm days which impart concentration to the grapes and cold nights which bring forth natural acidity. The state-of-the-art winery is located in the vineyard. Winemaker Fabian Valenzuela was joined by Jean Claude Berrouet in 2012, who previously presided over 44 vintages at Bordeaux's renowned Petrus Estate. Together, they work to create a beautiful tapestry of lush fruit, terroir, and oak in each and every one of their distinctive cuvées.*

Named "Black Tears" because of its intense color, today's wine is made from 100% Malbec that is stainless steel fermented and aged in 100% new French oak for 24 months. 100% malolactic fermentation adds to the wine's rich texture.

95 points, James Suckling:
“Age has settled this concentrated Malbec into a good place with rich, ripe plums and a gently peppery edge. The palate has intensity and depth with concentrated dark berries, finding focus and length. Impressive poise here. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.” (2/19/19)

93 points, Wine Spectator:
“Big and ripe, featuring concentrated raspberry, red plum and spiced cherry flavors. Pastry notes show mid-palate, with a finish filled to the brim with chocolate and cream details and hints of white pepper. Drink now through 2023. 1,800 cases made, 1,100 cases imported.” (2/28/19)

92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
“The floral, aromatic and fresh 2014 Black Tears Malbec comes from the higher altitude vineyards where the soils are shallow and have lots of stones, matured in French oak barrels for 24 months. It has integrated oak, ripe fruit without excess, quite intense and with a powerful yet balanced and elegant palate. It's tasty and shows good purity of fruit and a stony/mineral sensation in the palate.” (8/31/19)

92 points, Wine Enthusiast:
“Floral berry, exotic spice, cinnamon and oak aromas lead to a full, jammy palate that's layered and generous with fruit. Blackberry, plum, chocolate and baking-spice flavors roll towards a smooth, solid finish that seems to be near maturity. Drink through 2025.” (1/1/20)
