Dashe Cellars is a family-owned artisan winery located in the heart of the Urban Wine Country in Oakland, CA. Founded by Michael and Anne Dashe, Dashe Cellars crafted its first vintage in 1996. Since that time, the Dashes have focused on producing exceptional, single-vineyard wines using a traditional, non-industrial approach to winemaking. They are committed to creating wines that reflect the unique soil, climate, and regional characteristics of their vineyards. To attain these goals, Dashe Cellars uses traditional and “natural” winemaking techniques, including small-lot fermentation, the use of indigenous yeasts, and little-to-no fining or filtration.
The 2017 Dashe Cellars McFadden Farm Riesling is one of the most aromatic and lovely Rieslings that the Dashes have made thus far, from organically-grown grapes high in the mountains of Potter Valley on the east border of Mendocino County. The gnarled 30+-year-old vines grow in white, rocky, chalky soil, tucked up against the cool hillsides of the east side of the valley. These gnarly, low yielding vineyards produce a mere 500 cases per year of world-class Riesling.
This wine offers up gorgeous aromas of jasmine and rose, mixed with hints of grapefruit. The palate is lushly textured and displays dominant notes of apricot and peach. Just off-dry, its slight sweetness is balanced with spiciness and crisp acidity. Stony minerality and a touch of fennel appear on the long finish.
