PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
Gregory Barbet purchased Domaine de la Pirolette in 2013. Looking for a home in the region, he had no intentions of becoming a winemaker, but the estate's hilltop vineyards and 65-year-old vines changed his mind.

Saint-Amour, located in the northern part of Beaujolais, is one of the smallest crus in Beaujolais yet has the most diverse terroir that includes blue volcanic schist, granite, pink granite, clay, alluvial fans, and sandstone from the time that Burgundy was under water. The terroir gives the Domaine's wines vibrant fruit, energy, and loads of character.

Winemaking at the Domaine is traditional. The wines are fermented in cement with 50% whole clusters and are very gently extracted using the chapeau grillé method, which simply means keeping the cap submerged with a grate, thus infusing the skins with the fermenting juice. After fermentation, the classic wine is aged for nine months in stainless steel. (from importer notes)

93 points, James Suckling:
"A beautiful and serious Saint-Amour. Not just the deep blackberry fruit, but also a delicate savory edge and just a hint of old balsamic vinegar make this very expressive. Rich and fleshy, but also elegant, thanks to the fine tannins and mineral acidity that also drive the long, vibrant finish. Drink or hold." (4/12/22)

91 points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"This estate, named after the yellow flower that grows in the vineyard, has given us this ripe, full, and juicy wine. A layer of firm tannins lies beneath the succulent black fruit flavors. Drink the wine from 2023." (12/31/22)
