PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Just arrived on Friday morning, the 2015 Tenuta Argentiera Bolgheri Superiore Cru, out of Tuscany, Italy represents the finest wine ever produced by this blue-chip Super Tuscan estate located in the Bolgheri region. Surpassing the estate's 50th Anniversary 2013 bottling, a wine that we featured a little over a year ago, this afternoon's selection is a must-have wine for any serious Super Tuscan wine collector out there. One of the key elements of any collectible wine is an absolute commitment to quality across the entire winemaking process on the part of the winemaker. Tenuta Argentiera certainly meets this criterion.  Likewise, as with most anything collectible, there is also a degree of scarcity that helps to drive demand. Today's Saturday afternoon surprise is no exception.
PRODUCT REVIEWS:
James Suckling 99 Points
"A delightful nose of creme de cassis, hot stones, and crushed violets and spices. Full body, chewy and super polished tannins, and a long finish, which really takes off thanks to electric acidity. An essay in balance and depth. Best ever. Puts Argentiera with the best of the best in Tuscany. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc." (9/11/18)
Wine Spectator 95 Points
"Sleek and elegant, featuring black currant, violet, iron, licorice, olive, tobacco and spice flavors. Deftly balanced, picking up rosemary, juniper and pine accents as this plays out on the long, cohesive finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2042." (7/31/18)

The grapes, hand-picked and carefully selected, come from the Estate’s best-suited vineyards, which are found at an altitude of between 180 and 200 meters (590-660 feet). The whole grapes fall into tanks below by force of gravity. The grape varieties were produced separately. Fermentation and maceration occurred in stainless steel tanks for about 25-30 days at a controlled temperature, not above 28-30 C. The wine was then put into 225-liter barrels made of French oak, of which half was new; here the malolactic fermentation was completed. The aging process lasted about 18 months in the oak barrels and then another 12 months in bottles before the wine was made available for sale.
