PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa was founded by Antonio Scarpa in 1854, but the winery’s stellar reputation was made by Mario Pesce, whose family purchased the property in the 1960s. Influenced by time spent working at some of the great estates in Alsace and Burgundy, Mario believed that he could make top-notch wines in Piedmont, outside of the Barolo and Barbaresco zones. Over time he earned the respect of some of the region's most iconic winemakers, including Bruno Giacosa and Angelo Gaja.

Today wine is a mono-varietal (100% Nebbiolo) sourced from Bric du Nota, a 2.5-hectare vineyard just outside of Monteu Roero, the highest wine-producing village in the Roero. Stainless-steel fermented and aged in oak casks for 12 months, it is medium bodied, perfumed, and well-structured, with lots of red cherry, red currant, and strawberry fruit characters laced with baking spice, savory herbs, wet stone, earth, leather, and tobacco. Pliant tannins and balancing acidity make this wine ready to go now although you can keep some of it in your cellar for three to five years and it will evolve beautifully.
