Located near Sicily's southeastern coastline, Cerasuolo di Vittoria is the only DOCG on the island and produces one of its loveliest red wines by the same name. Cerasuolo means "cherry-like" in the local dialect; the wine is aptly named. A blend of native varietals nero d'avola and frappato, Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a distinctive blend of cherry and berry fruit characters framed by silky tannins, making it oh-so-gluggable.
The Baglio delle Fate estate is owned by siblings Valentina and Cesare Nicodemo, who own and operate the Judeka vineyard in Sicily. Passionate about Sicilian wines and tradition, the Nicodemos established Baglio della Fate in order to showcase Sicilian grapes. To this end, they farm their vineyards sustainably in order to maintain purity of fruit and terroir.
Today's offer is a blend of 60% nero d'avola and 40% frappato fermented and aged sans oak in order to keep its lively fruit characters on center stage. Aromas and flavors of ripe black cherries, raspberries, and strawberries beguile the senses. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied and layered with accents of savory herbs and wet stone; vibrant acidity brings it to a long finish.
