PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
Bordón represents the trajectory of Rioja's transformation into a fine wine destination. The estate was established in 1890 by Frederick Anglade Saurat of Bordeaux when the Spanish wine industry was almost destroyed by the wine blight phylloxera and the French stepped in to help Spain replant and rebuild. This partnership not only helped Spain to recover but also elevated its wine production, especially in Rioja, which became the country's first world-class fine wine appellation. To this day, Bordón has been at the forefront of the Rioja renaissance, consistently crafting world-class wines that are darlings of the wine press as well as legions of aficionados from around the world.

Today's wine is Tempranillo-based and blended with a touch of Garnacha and Mazuelo. Grapes are sourced from all three sub-regions of Rioja: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Orientale (formerly Baja). Aged for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak before bottling, it is medium-to-full-bodied, with aromas and flavors of black cherries and black raspberries. On the palate, the fruit is finely layered with notes of vanilla, cocoa, cedar, sweet baking spices, and toffee, all of which bring the wine to a long and harmonious finish. Check out the press!

90 points, Vinous:
"Vivid ruby-red. Oak-spiced cherry and candied rose aromas are complemented by suggestions of mocha, smoked meat, and pipe tobacco. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering cherry, vanilla, and dark chocolate flavors that become more energetic with aeration. Finishes spicy and quite long, displaying resonating smokiness and dusty tannins that build steadily."
