Craig and Claudia Broadley moved to Oregon in the 1970s with the dream of turning their passion for Pinot into a family business. They made it happen on a shoestring budget, settling in Monroe, Oregon and established their winery in 1981. After years of hard work, their efforts were rewarded upon the release of their 1994 "Claudia's Choice" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, made from old vines sourced from their own vineyard in Monroe. This sublime wine put them on the map and earned them legions of fans.
Today, Craig and Claudia's son Morgan is the winemaker and vineyard manager. He takes a non-interventionist approach to his craft and farms sustainably, knowing that great wines are made in the vineyards. Whole-cluster fermentation of the grapes in wooden vats brings forth wines with ripe fruit characters, deeply layered complexity, and good structure.
Jessica's Vineyard, named for Morgan Broadley’s (winemaker/owner) wife and working partner, brings forth full-bodied Pinot Noirs crafted from the Wadenswil clone. These wines display rich, ripe fruit characters and secondary flavors that are seamlessly integrated on a silky, lush palate.
94 Points & Editor’s Choice, Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
This vintage of Jessica is a rock star of a wine, a full display of winemaking craftsmanship at its best. Black-cherry, black tea, tobacco, and coffee flavors are seamlessly combined in a rich supple utterly captivating wine that will be hard to leave in your cellar for very long. It’s 100% Wadenswil clone, and was 50% whole-cluster fermented.” (3/19)
94 Points, Vinous:
“Brilliant red. Assertively perfumed scents of candied red fruits, incense, potpourri, and exotic spices pick up a hint of smokiness in the glass. Sweet, seamless and expansive on the palate, showing wonderful clarity and mineral lift to the cherry, raspberry, and rose pastille flavors. Takes a deeper, darker turn with air and finishes on a gently tannic note, delivering outstanding persistence and lingering black raspberry and spice cake qualities.” (6/19)
