Craig and Claudia Broadley moved to Oregon in the 1970s with the dream of turning their passion for Pinot into a family business. They made it happen on a shoestring budget, settling in Monroe, Oregon and establishing their winery in 1981. After years of hard work, their efforts were rewarded upon the release of their 1994 "Claudia's Choice" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, made from old vines sourced from their own vineyard in Monroe. This sublime wine put them on the map and earned them legions of fans.
Today, Craig and Claudia's son Morgan is the winemaker and vineyard manager. He takes a non-interventionist approach to his craft and farms sustainably, knowing that great wines are made in the vineyards. Whole-cluster fermentation of the grapes in wooden vats brings forth wines with ripe fruit characters, deeply layered complexity, and good structure.
92 points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"This elegant, sophisticated wine dramatically out-performs its price point. The luminous color, pretty floral aromatics and subtle integration of fruit all suggest a wine that could easily bear a reserve label. Raspberry and cherry fruit, sweet spices, polished tannins, and supple acidity pull it together nicely, even at such a young age." (3/1/19)
90 points, Wine Spectator:
"Plump and expressive, with lively raspberry and spice flavors that show a hint of fresh earth. Offers a long, supple finish. Drink now through 2025. 2,200 cases made." (7/31/19)
