Situated in the heart of the Mediterranean, Puglia is a land of rare beauty, where vast plains alternate with gentle hills. Salento, the long narrow strip that forms Puglia’s southern peninsula, extends between the Ionian and Adriatic seas. It’s an area rich with ancient olive groves and vines, enchanting beaches, and jagged, rocky shoreline.* This is the home of the Cantele estate, a third-generation family-owned-and-run winery founded by the current generation's grandparents, immigrants from the north who settled in Puglia after WWII. The family is known for its pioneering work with and passion for indigenous varietals and strives to make unique wines that elevate consumers' perception of wines from the region. To that end, they decided it was time to craft wine from the rare verdeca grape that would be the one against which others would be measured.
Vinified in stainless steel, the 2021 Cantele Verdeca is unbelievably, mouthwateringly delicious (!!!), with aromas and flavors of lime, honeydew melon, quince, pear, and white peach. On the medium-bodied palate, the ripe fruit characters are laced with notes of baking spice, and juicy acidity carries the wine to a long finish.
