PRODUCT OVERVIEW: Cantina Pertinace was founded in 1973 by Mario Barbero. Located in Pertinace in Treiso, one of the four villages in the Langhe famous for the production of Barbaresco, it is a winegrowers' cooperative of thirteen members whose innovative, ground-breaking idea was to create a business that could cultivate superior fruit and produce top-notch wines, with one eye on quality and the other on the tastes of the evolved consumer.*
Today's wine is sourced entirely from the Marcarini vineyard. Situated in Treiso, it has a south-westerly exposure. Its nebbiolo grapes produce soft yet well-structured, deep garnet red wines with scents of spices and dried fruit, resulting in harmonious, elegant Barbarescos.*
Fermented in stainless steel and aged in Slavonian oak casks for 28 months, today's wine is resplendent with aromas and flavors of red cherries that have retained their youthful exuberance. Supporting notes of raspberries, dried herbs, brambly earth, tobacco leaf and the merest hints of rose petal and spice unfold on the palate layer by glorious layer. All of these flavors ride on a frame of soft yet supple tannins as well as bright acidity that belies the wine's age.
