PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Cara Nord was established in 2012 by lifelong friends and career wine professionals Tomàs Cusiné and Xavier Cepero. They were drawn to the rugged north face of the Sierra de Prades Mountains and its viticulturally rich winemaking history. The area encompasses some of Spain's greatest wine destinations - Costers del Segre, Tarragona, Penedès, and Monsant - but the friends chose their lesser-known neighbor, the tiny appellation of Conca de Barberà, as their winery's home.
"Conca" means basin in Catalan and is an apt description for the region. A valley surrounded by rivers and mountains, it has all the building blocks for great wines: a continental climate, wide diurnal temperature variations, and porous, limestone-rich soils that force the vines' roots to do what they need to do: dig deep into the soil for nutrients.
The 2020 Cara Nord Tempranillo has enticing aromas of leather, spice, and red and black fruits. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied, with flavors of blackberries, cherries, and raspberries laced with notes of baking spice, garrigue, wet stone, vanilla, and cocoa that unfold layer by layer. Pliant tannins give the wine structure without detracting from its smooth texture.
