PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The Campora comes from the estate-owned vineyard Camporaiolo at Casale in San Gimignano. It is produced from carefully hand-selected cabernet sauvignon (95%) and merlot (5%) grapes.
After the fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, the wine passes into small French oak barriques (40% new, 60% used) and is aged for about 30 months; this is where this wine gains the structure and elegance for which it is noted. Once bottled, the wine then rests for at least 3 more years in the winery’s cellars before being introduced to the public. (winery notes)
At the time of its release, Robert Parker rated today's feature 90 points and stated “Quite frankly, it is incredible to think that a wine of this level could come from S. Gimignano”. Tasting this wine today, we were absolutely blown away at the quality and value in the bottle.
The 2003 Casale Falchini Campora Toscana IGT has aromas and flavors of black cherries, cassis, and blackberries. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied and silky smooth; the fruit characters are seamlessly entwined with notes of vanilla, brambly earth, underbrush, and baking spices. These abundant flavors glide on a frame of smooth tannins that bring the wine to a long and elegant finish.
