With a history that dates back to the late 19th century, the Ceretto family has emerged over the last 20 years as being among the greatest producers in the region of Piedmont. Their holdings include over 400 acres of vineyards, including some of the top sites in the prestigious DOCG areas of Barolo and Barbaresco. The family name is synonymous with estate-grown, carefully produced wines that express true varietal character with purity and elegance.
The Brunate Vineyard is a 28-hectare plot located in the commune of La Morra. One of the most representative vineyards of the commune, it has always been considered a reference point for the entire appellation. The soil is composed of fossilized marl overlaid with sand; it has a south/southeast facing exposure and elevations ranging from 750 to 1300 feet above sea level.
2013 was an outstanding vintage in Piedmont, receiving 97 points from Wine Spectator: "A cooler growing season and late harvest resulted in wines of purity and finesse, with fine acidity; best Barolos since 2010."
96 points, Vinous:
"Ceretto's 2013 Barolo Brunate is superb. Dark, sensual and inviting, but also super-refined, the 2013 possesses exceptional overall balance. Sweet cherry, kirsch, menthol, rose petal, blood orange, licorice, sage, and herbs all grace the palate in this translucent, strikingly beautiful Barolo. All of the pedigree and class of Brunate comes through. This is a wine of remarkable grace and compelling beauty." (2/2017)
95 points, James Suckling:
"Extremely perfumed and pretty with flowers, citrus fruit, and cherries. Full body, a super-refined center palate, polished and refined tannins, and a long and subtle finish. A beauty. Classic style. Drink in 2020." (9/2017)
94 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Ceretto's 2013 Barolo Brunate shows dark garnet luminosity with subtle hues of cooked brick at the rims. By appearance alone, this is a very inviting Barolo. The bouquet is a bit softer and more delicate in this vintage. The wine shows a beautiful side of the usually more potent and austere Brunate cru. Following a similar theme, the mouthfeel is lightly layered and nuanced. The yielding tannins make this wine slightly more accessible, although it is also built for long aging should that be your preference. The wine is versatile and approachable in the medium term as well." (6/2017)
