Blaye in Côtes de Bordeaux is situated on the Right Bank of the Gironde River. The landscape is quite hilly and gets great sun exposure, while the clay and limestone soils are ideal for the cultivation of Merlot, the dominant varietal here (Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec thrive here as well). Blaye reds have generous fruit flavors, with underlying terroir-driven characters and good structure.
Today's wine is a blend of 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Malbec vinified in stainless steel in order to showcase the wine's gorgeous fruit. It has compelling aromas of blackberries and leather that lead to a medium-bodied palate with generous notes of cassis and black raspberry. Accents of baking spice, savory herbs, and black pepper add depth and dimension; chewy tannins and moderate acidity lend structure and balance.
