PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
Listrac-Médoc, located in Haut-Médoc, lies in the shadows of its more well-known appellations like Pauillac and Margaux - and this is great news for discerning and bargain-hunting wine lovers. It has the terroir to bring forth beautiful wines but does not command the high prices of its famous neighbors.
Château Mayne Lalande was established in 1982 and is a relatively small estate, with only 17 hectares under vine. Caretaker and vineyard manager Alice-Jeanne lavishes plenty of attention on the vines; this dedication, coupled with the estate's abundant sunshine and clay/limestone soils, makes opulent yet elegant wines that belie their price points.
Today's wine is a blend of 45% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 5% petit verdot, and 5% cabernet franc aged for 14 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels. Medium-to-full-bodied, it has aromas and flavors of cassis, blackberries, and savory herbs. The palate is laced with notes of wet stone and white pepper, with subtle hints of vanilla and licorice.
