PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Located in the northern part of Roussillon, Maury Sec is an AOC established in 2011 that covers the production of dry, red wines in Maury, which is known for its sweet, fortified wines. The terroir here is indeed rough, characterized by steep, limestone cliffs and black schist-dominant soils that are difficult to cultivate. But it is precisely these conditions that make vines struggle to take root and produce grapes - and the beauty is in the struggle. The harder vines work, the better the fruit, and this truth is beautifully borne out in the captivating 2018 Château Saint-Roch Kerbuccio Maury Sec.

Jean-Marc Lefage is a seventh-generation winemaker and the current proprietor/caretaker of his family estate in Catalan. However, he grew up in Maury and made his first wines there, so when the opportunity arose to purchase a Maury estate, he jumped at the chance. His cuvées are stunning, compelling expressions of varietals and terroir and have become the benchmark against which all Maury Sec wines are measured.

The 2018 Château Saint-Roch Kerbuccio is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan
sourced from organically grown vines and aged for 9 months in a combination of concrete tanks and large French oak barrels. Full-bodied and dry yet ultra-ripe, it is resplendent on the nose and palate with black cherries, cassis, and blackberries. Velvet-textured, it offers accents of chocolate, tobacco, leather, and herbs that unfold in the mouth. Moderate acidity keeps all this decadence in balance. The wine finishes tantalizingly long, with those rich fruit characters lingering on the tongue and begging you to take another sip.
