PRODUCT OVERVIEW
2019 Céline & Frédéric Gueguen Chablis 1er Cru "Vosgros"
The 1er Cru “Vosgros" Vineyard is situated south of the village of Chablis, on the left bank of the River Serein. The vineyard's limestone soil is typical of Chablis, but its unusual position gives “Vosgros” wines a distinctive character. Its southwest exposure and amphitheater shape ensure that the grapes get abundant sunshine and just enough wind to temper the sun's heat, resulting in slow-ripening fruit and finished wines that perfectly balance ripeness and acidity. The Gueguen 2019 1er Cru “Vosgros” is crisp and energetic with a subtle freshness. The wine is also known to reveal further generous and seductive qualities over time. The wines of Céline & Frédéric Gueguen have been described as graceful and crystalline. Their estate is made up of 26 hectares of vines. Céline was working with her father Jean-Marc Brocard on his Chablis estate for 13 years and Frédéric was the winemaker at two renowned domaines in the appellation. In 2013 Céline & Frederic decided to strike out on their own, and their combined years of experience shows in their beautiful wines.
As it is often so in Chablis, several versions of the vineyard's proper name exist, and stories about its origins vary. Some legends say the name "Vosgros" may have originated from a Chablisienne family called Gros that owned land in the valley. Others say the name refers to a "grande et grosse vallée" (big valley) or a "vallée creuse" (hollow valley). Whatever the name's origins, the key to sounding like a native is pronouncing "Vosgros" by sounding the first S!
