PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The Mâconnais has a centuries-old winemaking history but has only recently begun to come into its own as a source of high-quality wines, despite a terroir that is similar to that of its more prestigious neighbor to the north. Marl, sandstone, granite and schist make up much of the soil in the Mâconnais and they are the building blocks for beautiful, complex pinots.
Located near the Mâconnais' famous Solutré rock, Domain du Château de Pierreclos is a historic castle with a history dating back to the 12th century. In 2008 experienced farmers and winemakers Anne-Françoise and Jean-Marie Pidault became its caretakers and planted 8 hectares of vineyards. They farm organically and have a non-interventionist philosophy regarding winemaking.
The 2018 Domaine du Chateau de Pierreclos Bourgogne Rouge is sourced from vines with an average age of 22 years planted in the town of Bussières. Fermented and aged for 6 months in seasoned casks, it is medium-bodied, silky, and plush, with floral-tinged red fruit aromas and flavors of red cherries and raspberries laced with sweet herbs and underbrush.
