The Sud Absolu is crafted from Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, a member of the Muscat family of varietals that hails from Greece and is widely planted in northern Italy. While it makes sweeter wines in the boot, today's offer is dry yet redolent with ripe fruit. The varietal is in good hands; fifth-generation farmers Philippe Bernard and Elisabeth Serra of Domaine La Ligière in the southern Rhône are true stewards of the earth dedicated to organic farming in order to protect their land and bring out the best in their finished wines.
Bernard and Serra are the first in their family to expand their endeavors from grape cultivation to winemaking; their expertise in farming has informed their philosophy that wines are made in the vineyards. They have 60 hectares of vines cultivated without the use of fertilizer, weed killer, or any chemical treatment whatsoever. The soil is plowed regularly and fertilized with organic compost in the fall, and the harvest is protected only with the use of natural products such as sulfur, copper, plant infusions (nettle, horsetail, wicker, etc), and biodynamic preparations. (from importer notes)
The Sud Absolu Blanc abounds with enticing aromas and flavors of pineapples, white flowers, nectarines, and peaches. On the palate, baking spices and a subtle undercurrent of stony minerality add complexity and interest, while vibrant acidity brings all this abundance into balance.
