For seven generations, the Hamelin family has been making wine – from the 1840s when Gustave Hamelin purchased 2 hectares of vines and a mule to work the land, to today where Thierry Hamelin and his son Charles cultivate over 36 hectares of vines stretched out over 3 villages. The knowledge handed down from generation to generation is a harmonious mix of old traditions and modern-day techniques. Their focus is to craft generous and elegant wines that are pure expressions of terroir. (importer notes)
The Hamelin family also has holdings outside the village of Auxerre in the northern part of Burgundy, just west of Chablis. Here, the soils, rich in clay and limestone, make magic with this noble grape varietal. Today's wine is sourced from this little-known location, and quite frankly, we hope it stays under the radar!
Fermented and aged in stainless steel, the 2018 Domaine Hamelin Bourgogne Blanc has aromas of orange marmalade and white flowers. The palate is medium-bodied, with flavors of Golden Delicious apples, apricots, and lemon curd laced with wet stone. The wine finishes long, with juicy acidity.
