PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The Domaine Weinbach monopole vineyard "Clos des Capucins" is a highly respected vineyard site in Alsace, with a long and distinguished history, the first references to the Capucin monastery here dating back to the ninth century, established in 1612 by the Capucin monks who built the clos.
Unusually for the region, Weinbach only uses estate-grown grapes, employing both organic and biodynamic practices. Domaine Weinbach produces an exquisite range of wines: estate varietal wines including Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Sylvaner and Pinot Blanc, single vineyard wines that express the diversity of the terroir, and luscious yet balanced vendanges tardives and selections de grains nobles wines.
Colette Faller and and her 2 daughters Catherine and Laurence were among the first women ever to lead and manage a winery in France. These 3 women propelled Domaine Weinbach to the very top of Alsace’s most renowned wineries in terms of quality and international presence. This mother and her 2 daughters were highly respected among their peers, their community and the international wine trade.
Tragedy struck in May 2014 when Laurence died suddenly at the age of 47, leaving a young family. Then Matriarch Collette Faller also passed away.
Laurence was known as one of the world’s most gifted winemakers and she as well as her mother and sister Catherine are among the most admired women in the world's wine industry. Domaine Weinbach was one of the earliest internationally esteemed wine estates to be managed solely by women.
Colette Faller's eldest daughter Catherine is in charge of the estate today, aided by her sons Théo and Eddy.
