PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
The Bréchet family has been making wine in southern France for 5 generations. Starting with a modest 10 hectares of vineyards in Gigondas, the family has gradually acquired land in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac, Côtes du Rhône, and Provence. They oversee three estates: Château Vaudieu, based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de la Coulerette in Provence, and Le Plateau de Chênes in Lirac. Their wines have earned them legions of fans as well as numerous praise from the wine press. Today's wine is a testament to their passion, talents, and reverence for terroir.
The spectacular 2017 Famille Bréchet Le Plateau des Chênes Lirac is a blend of sustainably-farmed Syrah and Grenache that has spent 9 months in a combination of 225L and 600L French oak barrels before bottling. It displays the blackberries and pepper notes characteristic of Syrah, the red fruits and spice of Grenache, and the rich terroir of Lirac on a medium-to-full-bodied frame with just the right touch of oak and acidity that rounds out the finish. Check out the press!
91 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"A super example of the appellation, the 2017 Lirac is full-bodied, concentrated, and velvety on the palate, offering up notes of raspberries, cherries, and dark chocolate. Offering plenty of richness, texture, flavor, and length, it should drink well for up to a decade." (10/31/19)
90 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"Black cherries, garrigue, earth, and peppery spice notes all emerge from the 2017 Lirac, a classic, medium-bodied, nicely concentrated effort that has ripe tannins and a good finish. It's made in a much more classic, traditional style compared to the Le Temps cuvée, yet it’s still a plush, sexy wine." (8/16/19)
90 points, Wine Spectator:
"Deliciously plump and juicy blackberry and black cherry compote notes form the core of this solid red, with streaks of tobacco and anise filling in." (11/15/19)
