The Fitz family is one of the oldest producers of sparkling wine in Germany. Now in its ninth generation of ownership and management under Johann Fitz, the son of Konrad & Alice Fitz who have now retired, but are still actively involved.

Located in Bad Dürkheim (in German, the word “Bad” implies a spa town) the wine estate is embedded into the foothills of the Palatinate forest, marks the heart of the fertile Middle Haardt region of the Pfalz. The area is especially favored by a warm micro-climate in the broad Rhine valley, protected from cold winds by the bordering Pfalz hillside forests. Countless almond trees can thus flourish between the vineyards, their delicate pink blossom heralding the end of the winter.

The grapes for this sparkling wine are carefully selected from vineyards in the Pfalz region. The rich & fertile loamy soil is ideal for Riesling. The second fermentation takes place in small pressure tanks (the Charmant method)and aged for 15-18 months on the lees, whereby the legal minimum is 9 months. The pressure in tank rises naturally to a very high 8 atmospheres, and after filtering and cooling to near freezing point which avoids any loss of sparkle. Sekt is the German word for sparkling wine. The wine estate is today certified organic.
