Kirk Venge is at the helm of the family winery bearing his surname and is the chief winemaker for several other estates, making him the man behind some of the most opulent red wines coming out of California's North Coast. With wine craftsmanship in his genes, decades spent immersed in viticulture and vinification, and guided by the philosophy that great wine is made in the vineyards, Kirk has catapulted many wineries on the West Coast - including his own - to success.

Siblings Trent and Kimberly Jackson collaborated with their vintner father to found Jax Vineyards with a focus on crafting artisanal wines that reflect their origins. Kirk Venge was a natural choice for winemaker for his ability to create balanced wines reflecting varietal character and a sense of place. Kirk has reinforced the family's instinct that focus should always be on terroir in order to understand the nuances that bring forth great wine.

The Jacksons' lineup of “Y3” wines is sourced from multiple AVAs spanning Napa and Sonoma. Staying true to their belief that great wines are made in the vineyards, the “Y3” wines each display the distinct characteristics of their origins. The lineup is named for the cattle ranch that was owned by Jackson’s grandparents and represents three generations of working the land.

Today's stunning cabernet is sourced from vineyards throughout Napa and Sonoma and is blended with 10% merlot. Aged in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 22 months, it has "dark aromas of ripe blackberries, currants and a hint of spice. It coats the palate with dense layers of black cherry, cocoa nib, forest floor, and soft hints of cedar. Full-bodied with broad structure, this wine carries through with vibrant acidity and delicate tannins." (winery notes) Check out the press!
