After John completed a master's degree in viticulture and enology from UC Davis, he took advantage of the plethora of job opportunities in Napa's budding wine industry, cutting his teeth at Stony Hill, Christian Brothers, and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. After these experiences, he had 13-year tenure as winemaker at Newton Vineyards, where he pioneered the practice of crafting unfiltered Chardonnays. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJohn and Maggy planted their vineyards in the hills east of Napa, including the famous Judge Vineyard, and produced their inaugural vintage in 1996. Today, John works alongside his son, Alex Kongsgaard, and assistant winemaker Evan Frazier. As always, their production is limited to what they can craft with their own hands. The bouquet reveals scents of baked apples, glazed pineapple, honeycomb, apricot, peaches in light syrup, mango, butterscotch and creme Brulée. The palate offers ripe apricot and yellow nectarine along with baked pineapple, baked pears, toasted almonds, citrus oil, and a chalky\/minerally character persisting on the finish. Its texture is rounded but not fleshy and is accompanied by a balanced acidity.
