The La Bastide Saint Dominique estate lies in the heart of the Southern Rhône Valley, right at the foothills of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The property enjoys an optimal terroir for wine production, thanks to the unique Mistral winds which blow throughout the winter and very hot and dry summers. Built around a former 16th-century chapel, the estate was created by Marie-Claude and Gérard Bonnet with only a handful of hectares. Since establishing the Domaine in 1976, the Bonnets have, alongside their son Eric, expanded the estate to a total area of 50 hectares. The Bonnets also own and operate Crous St. Martin, the winery behind the über popular Châteauneuf-du-Pape that we have sold en masse over the last two years. These people know their terroir and they know their craft!
Today's wine is a blend of 50% Viognier, 25% Grenache Blanc, and 25% Clairette from 35-year-old vines planted in sandy clay soil. It is unoaked yet full-bodied and loaded with character; citrus fruits and wet stone on the nose lead to a rich, round palate of white peach and ginger up front, with accents of melon, baking spice, and lemon peel. Vibrant acidity on the finish brings it all onto harmonious balance.
